NU budget down this year

? The University of Nebraska-Lincoln athletic department is operating on a $66.7 million budget in fiscal year 2008, down about $2.2 million from last year, according to figures released Tuesday.

Expenses for salaries, scholarships and utilities are increasing this year, but the budget is lower because the department spent about $5 million last year for the video board in the north end of Memorial Stadium.

Football remains the only moneymaking sport, projected to generate $14.1 million in excess revenue.
