Fourth Quarter

3:42: Colorado – Byron Ellis 5 pass from Cody Hawkins (Kevin Eberhart kick) – 19-14

-Byron Ellis made an athletic dive for the end zone from three yards out after slipping from the grip of Mike Rivera on a hurried pass by Cody Hawkins.

10:23: KU – Derek Fine 4 pass from Todd Reesing (Reesing run failed) – 19-7

-A 94-yard drive which ate up more than seven minutes of clock time resulted in a nifty play which faked out the entire Colorado defense. At the CU four-yard line, Reesing rolled left with two of his receivers, bringing the Colorado defense along with him. Derek Fine went to the right and was left all alone for an easy touchdown grab. The two-point run was stuffed at the one-yard line, but KU was still up two scores.

Third Quarter

6:13: KU – Scott Webb 35 field goal – 13-7

-A defensive holding penalty following an impressive Justin Thornton interception put KU in the Colorado red zone. Todd Reesing was nearly picked on a slant to Dexton Fields, but after another incompletion, the Jayhawks took three points on Scott Webb’s second field goal of the game.

8:20: KU – Jake Sharp 2 run (Scott Webb kick) – 10-7

-Sparked by a couple of Jake Sharp runs and a huge catch-and-run over the middle by Marcus Henry, KU slugged Colorado right back. On first-and-goal from the two-yard line, Sharp ran like a sledgehammer up the middle right into two CU defenders and broke the plane to somewhat silence Colorado’s home crowd.

9:50: Colorado – Tyson DeVree 27 pass from Cody Hawkins (Kevin Eberhart kick) – 7-3

-Spurred by a defensive delay of game call on fourth down earlier in the drive, Colorado tasted blood. On third-and-one at the KU 27, a fumbled snap forced KU’s entire defense to pursue the backfield. Hawkins recovered and flipped the ball down the seam to a wide open Tyson DeVree, who was able to walk into paydirt.

Second Quarter

13:42: KU – Scott Webb 48 field goal – 3-0

-Sparked by a crafty 53-yard run by Todd Reesing, KU was able to draw first blood with Webb hitting his first field goal of the year longer than 40 yards. He saw a bad snap come to Kyle Tucker, but drilled the 48-yarder with plenty of room to spare into the wind.
