Boulder, Colo. ? Kansas University sophomores Monica Dolinsky and Kim Boyer each recorded a goal and an assist in the second half, while senior goalkeeper Colleen Quinn made six saves to earn her second shutout of the season as the KU soccer team posted a 2-0 victory over Big 12 rival Colorado on Friday at Prentup Field.
The Jayhawks’ third consecutive road victory moved them to 4-9-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the conference. The Buffaloes dropped to 7-5-3 and 3-3 in the Big 12. The victory was KU’s first in Boulder since the 2001 season.
Dolinsky put the Jayhawks on top in the 49th minute. After Boyer and freshman Rachel Morris got the ball into the center of the field, Dolinsky finished the play with a shot from 30 yards out as KU took a 1-0 lead.
Boyer then put the finishing touches on the match with her fourth goal of the season. With just over 11 minutes remaining, Dolinsky capitalized off of a misplay by a Colorado defender and tapped the ball to Boyer for the game-clinching score. It marked the second time this season that two KU players have recorded multi-point contests.
Quinn, a senior from Fort Collins, Colo., made six saves to earn his first shutout over a Big 12 opponent since blanking then-No. 25 Nebraska on Sept. 30, 2005.
The Buffaloes outshot Kansas, 17-9, and held a 7-2 edge in corner kicks. Boyer led the offense with five shots Friday, including four on net, while senior Emily Strinden collected two shots for KU.
The Jayhawks will travel to Texas on Sunday.
