Twin recruits enjoy KU visit, but don’t commit

Twins Marcus and Markieff Morris appeared to have a good time, laughing at and cheering Kansas University's basketball players during Friday's Late Night in the Phog in Allen Fieldhouse.

"The Midnight Madness : it was big," Marcus, a 6-foot-7, 215-pound forward, gushed Sunday after returning to APEX Academies in New Jersey with 6-8, 225-pound sibling Markieff.

"It was a nice visit. I knew it would be good. It's a lot better than I thought," added Marcus, who usually does the public speaking for the duo.

The Morris twins, who arrived in Lawrence on Friday, were back in the fieldhouse early Saturday morning to watch KU's first official practice of the season.

"I like the players. There's a lot of good players," said Marcus, who indicated his brother, "felt the same way. It was a nice visit."

The two, who played their senior seasons at Philadelphia Prep Charter High before heading to prep school this year, did not commit orally to KU on their visits.

They still have a visit scheduled to Villanova next weekend and possibly St. John's.

"We'll pick a school probably in the next two weeks," Marcus said, not positive any more visits will take place. "We were so busy (on visit), we didn't have time to think. Now we have to think about it."

i actually thought the sexy white girls comment was funny...and i am also a father with a daughter

KEITHMILES05 14 years, 11 months ago

I think they will make the right decision for themselves.

kranny 14 years, 11 months ago

rockchalk, what are you implying with the sexy white girls quip? If it's what I think it means, you need to clean it up and grow up and I'm speaking as a father with a daughter.

Chris McIlvain 14 years, 11 months ago

I second Kranny's comment! What a lack of class and intelligence rockchalk.

Perhaps it is time for the sexy white guys to work for the womens team.

KURUSH1530 14 years, 11 months ago

Let's be honest..what do you see around basketball players that are out at nights? Girls flocking all over it so hard to accept the truth?

Michael Bratisax 14 years, 11 months ago

Well this is much ado about nothing. If all it takes to get upset it is a little quip about "white girls" then real life must be hard.

Two of the 3 recruits couldn't have a clue what was happening at Late Night, they were to busy text messaging the entire time.

kunomu 14 years, 11 months ago

They were texting during the women's scrimmage and the other events of the evening. However, when the dream on video came on and they introduced the men's team the phones went away.

Isn't that how we got J.R. Giddens (the white girls)? You know how good that worked out.

Jeremy Piven was at Illinois' Midnight Madness thing and Tubby Smith looks like he wasn't able to draw a crowd at his... even ol' Roi is featured in this photo-ensemble. However, there appears to be a major gap in coverage regarding the absence of a certain 'storied' program. Can you tell me what that is? (Infuriating... really!)

Robronco07 14 years, 11 months ago

They were not laughing and cheering at all. They just sat there watched and texted on their cell phones the majority of the time.

gutter 14 years, 11 months ago

JayCeph - Piven is a piece of garbage. Who cares that he was at Illinois? He didn't even attend Illinois.

I have said a long time ago why bring kids to "Late Night" and not an actual game? Of course timing is a factor but for most recruits - 75% of Late Night is sitting around bored and sending text messages. .

It's called marketing. Wheter it takes Michael Jordan to sell a pair of shoes or "sexy white chicks" to sell your basetball program, you do whatever it takes, within the rules recruiting, to get the job done. It's pretty simple really.

If Illionois feels it takes Jermey Piven to sell their program, good for them...their idiots for doing so but hey, to each is own.

I for one would much rather walk the red carpet after exiting a "sexy" car while i dawn the crimson and blue infront of 16,000 adoring fans who've come to watch me in the first "practice" of the season. And it doesn't hurt to have a couple of "sexy white chicks" on the sidelines watching as well.

That shot of Gary Williams getting out of the Lamborghini at their late nite is classic!

Dirk Medema 14 years, 11 months ago

gutter - the first BB game is after the early signing period, so it would be irrelevant for a lot of recruits.

Jaydub 14 years, 11 months ago

I've never seen them play, but I'm guessing the Morris twins complement each other nicely on the court. Hopefully, we can get a verbal from them in two weeks.

Rock Klein 14 years, 11 months ago

I hope the massive thunderstorm on Saturday didn't scare the twins away. They may consider it a sign from God.

flipborder02 14 years, 11 months ago

I think the twins would verbaly commit but they already scheduled a visit to Villanova but I think after there visit they will commit to Ku.

Monroe to Hoyas; that's what's important.

Monroe going to the Hoyas now should pull some other recruits to Georgetown. Thompson 2.0 has just joined the ranks of top coaches.

ralsterKUMed95 14 years, 11 months ago

Im not sure what to think about the Morris one of them does all the talking for the other one? And as someone else brought up in a post a few weeks ago, would one looking out for the other conflict with sacrificing 'it all' for the 'team'?
The 'white girls' comment does not bother me--Jeez, its 2007, not 1967! If it was a joke, its a joke. If someone took offense to it, then that (possibly?) could say something about the one who took offense? I completely agree it would be looked upon as rather tasteless, although not to the degree of Don Imus' comments, but anything racial seems to be very politically incorrect anymore. I took it as a joke or maybe a superficially analagous to the 'hot chicks' in a lot of music videos, whatever skin color they may be... Do I care what some 18 or 19yr old (consenting)college kids want to do? Nope. And I have a 19yr old college student daughter--what she does is between her values(that we gave her), her personality type, and what she decides for herself in a given situation--so far she has made us proud. Now flip the coin: maybe some top recruits parents might be a little concerned from a health standpoint, just what kind of 'sexy girls' are being thrown at their sons, and what 'those risks' might entail, hmm??

ralsterKUMed95 14 years, 11 months ago

More food for thought: I do not feel 'daggers' when some top recruit signs elsewhere--isn't Monroe probably a 1-and-done (or 2, maybe)? Bring in someone like that and you pretty much need to have the "other pieces" in place, like a good set of guards, some depth off the bench, and some experience in post-season play. Without all of that, you are a LONGSHOT for the title anyway. Isn't Selfs (and pretty much the Eddie Sutton model all along but Sutton never got UNC-level or current KU-level talent) style of play predicated on a very cohesive team concept on offense and on defense? You plug in top-level talent into Self's system and you simply contend every year with this Sutton-style advanced to a ridiculous/fabulous level. I would postulate this: we may be BETTER SERVED by getting maybe not top10 recruits, but guys certainly in the top 20-75 range--Kids MUCH more likely to stay 3-4 years and thus maximize their potential in the Self/KU machine? And take pride in our such players now, guys like DJackson, RStewart (both would be a starters anywhere but KU), Case, that are NOT whining, yet doing whatever they can to get some playing about a correct attitude. Cannot ask for more.

Um I agree cmon white girls and especially white girls with big butts. All it takes is one night of dark lovin!!! Plus if you get pregnant it may just be your meal ticket for the rest of your life. Its a gamble worth thinking about!!!
