Kansas University freshman forward Nicollette Smith was named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Rookie of the Week by the media for the week of Nov. 5-11. The frosh from Tulsa, Okla., registered a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, both game highs, in the Jayhawks’ 76-72 opening day win over Hartford Sunday.

Smith made 4-of-7 shots from three-point range, and she was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line. Four of those charities came in the game’s final minute against the two-time defending America East champion.

Smith is KU’s fourth player to earn the honor since Kelly Kohn drew the award last December. KU’s next contest is Wednesday night against UMKC in Allen Fieldhouse.
