Ohio State’s loss to Illinois on Saturday created a little bit of wiggle room for Kansas University to continue climbing.

The Jayhawks, after beating Oklahoma State 43-28 on Saturday, is now ranked third in the Bowl Championship Series standings. The top two teams at the end of the regular season will play for the BCS National Championship on Jan. 7.

The Jayhawks’ BCS average is 0.9094, ranking them behind only LSU (0.9802) and Oregon (0.9383). Fellow Big 12 schools Oklahoma (0.8540) and Missouri (0.8096) round out the top five.

Ohio State dropped to seventh.

In addition, Kansas is ranked No. 4 in all three major polls — the Associated Press, USA Today coaches and Harris Interactive. The Jayhawks received first-place votes in all three polls, though LSU, Oregon and Oklahoma ranked 1-2-3 across the board.

Kansas (10-0) plays host to Iowa State on Saturday.
