When you’re hot you’re hot, and Kansas University’s softball team will take a five-game win streak to a weekend tournament in Sacramento, Calif.

The Jayhawks, winners of six of seven games during their season-opening homestand and 10 of their last 12 outings overall, will play five games over the next three days in the Capital Classic.

KU (17-7-1) will tangle with Cal Poly and Idaho State today, Georgia Southern and Pittsburgh on Saturday, then Colorado State on Sunday. After a day’s rest, KU will play Sacramento on State Tuesday to wrap up its spring break trip.

Senior pitcher Kassie Humphreys owns 10 of the Jayhawks’ 17 wins and has saved another three. Humphreys is 10-2 with a glossy 1.02 earned run average.

Catcher Elle Pottorf leads the KU batters in several categories, including batting average (.356), home runs (5) and RBI (24). Also hitting over .300 are freshman first baseman Amanda Jobe (.333), soph shortstop Stevie Crisosto (.316) and soph outfielder Dougie McCaulley (.308).

The Jayhawks will open Big 12 Conference play March 24-25 at Oklahoma State.
