Students, faculty and staff interested in purchasing tickets to Kansas University’s first round NCAA Tournament game in Chicago need to act fast.
KU has about 550 tickets available for sale at $225 on a first-come first-served basis. About 15 percent of the tickets are set aside for students and 10 percent are available for faculty and staff. The remainder of the tickets, as well as any that go unclaimed, will be made available to Williams Fund donors in the top two levels, Associate Athletics Director Jim Marchiony said. Interested donors have already notified the athletics department of their interest.
“We’re going through the process right now of making sure donors who want to go to the game can go,” Marchiony said.
Marchiony also said the department was looking at ways to acquire other tickets, especially if other schools playing in Chicago don’t use their entire allotment.
Tickets are available at the KU ticket office during normal hours, as well as online at www.kuathletics.com or by calling 800-34HAWKS.
For those who can’t get tickets, the Kansas Alumni Association is already making plans for its events in Chicago. Association Senior Vice President Mike Davis said he wouldn’t know the team hotel until this morning, when the NCAA makes its assignments, but he thought wherever it is would probably be the site of a team pep rally.
Davis also said the association had plans for watch parties in the Chicago area, which is home to one of the three largest populations of KU alumni. About 8,500 KU alumni live in the Chicago area, including two who own Lotties, a bar in Chicago that will have one of the KU watch parties.
“Tickets are very tight for these games. We’re hoping some of our Chicago alums will come out and watch the game at the watch sites,” Davis said.
He added that the association would probably have other events for its members, similar to things it did in Oklahoma City for the Big 12 Tournament.
