Wright named Big 12 Co-Player of the Week

By J-W Staff Reports     Mar 5, 2007

Thanks to a double-double average over two games in the past week, Kansas University sophomore forward Julian Wright was named the Big 12 co-Player of the Week today, sharing honors with Texas freshman Kevin Durant.

Wright is the only Jayhawk to earn either the Player of the Week or Rookie of the Week honors this season, doing so for the second time. He was first named POW on Nov. 27.

Wright averaged 17.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game between KU’s 67-65 win over Oklahoma last Monday and the Jayhawks’ 90-86 win over Texas Saturday, which clinched the outright Big 12 regular season championship.

For Durant, it was his fourth time this season earning the honors, while the Big 12 ROW billing went to fellow Texas freshman D.J. Augustin. Durant scored 32 points in a loss Saturday at KU, while Augustin averaged 20 points and 10 assists over the past week in two games. His 13 assists Saturday were the most ever recorded in a single game by a KU opponent.
