KU’s Mosley named Big 12 second team

Shaquina Mosley wasn’t a starter in Kansas University’s first 12 women’s basketball games.

But Mosley, a 5-foot-6 senior point guard, came on strong during the Big 12 Conference portion of the Jayhawks’ schedule and has been named to the all-league second team as chosen by conference coaches.

“She was our spark plug this season,” KU coach Bonnie Henrickson said, “and her emergence during conference play was evident in our strong finish.”

Mosley scored a career-high 26 points in Thursday’s 70-66 victory at Missouri, a victory that lifted the Jayhawks into the No. 11 seed for next week’s conference tourney in Oklahoma City.

The national junior-college player of the year as a sophomore at Central Arizona CC in 2005, Mosley leads the Jayhawks in points (10.7) and assists (110) and ranks second in rebounds (4.8).

Mosley has averaged 16.6 points, 7.4 rebounds and 5.1 assists in the last 16 games while recording four double-doubles.

Kansas will meet Oklahoma State at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in its tourney opener at the Cox Center in Oklahoma City.
