Norman, Okla. ? With a smile, Courtney Paris had someone special to thank for missing enough shots to allow her to set Oklahoma’s record for offensive rebounds.
“I just have to thank myself for missing layups,” said Paris, the Sooners’ 6-foot-4 All-America center.
The latest in the sophomore’s string of broken records came Sunday, as she scored 33 points and set Oklahoma’s career mark for offensive rebounds in the 13th-ranked Sooners’ 72-57 win against Missouri.
Paris pulled down 21 rebounds, including seven on the offensive end, to record her 54th consecutive double-double. Oklahoma coach Sherri Coale has long kidded that Paris pads her rebounding stats by missing shots and then getting her own rebound.
Paris did that three times against the Tigers.
“When I miss my shots, I think the reason I miss them is because the defense did a good job of pushing me and they work so hard pushing me out of position to get my shot where I don’t get the angle I wanted. They spend so much energy working on that angle, and sometimes they forget to box out,” Paris said.
Paris’ record-breaking 314th career offensive rebound came during an 8-0 run as the Sooners pulled away in the second half.

Texas A&M won both games against Baylor this season and can capture its first-ever conference title with a win Wednesday against Texas. It can also clinch the title with an Oklahoma loss.
Gant hit all seven of her shot attempts in the second half and combined with Takia Starks to score 32 of Texas A&M’s 35 points after halftime.
