LOUISVILLE ? Elle Pottorf homered, and Kassie Humphreys tossed a one-hitter as Kansas spilled Kent State, 4-0, in Sunday’s finale of the Louisville Invitational softball tournament.
Humphreys, a senior right-hander, fanned eight and walked four in boosting her record to 6-1. The only hit she allowed was a double by leadoff hitter Brittney Robinson.
Humphreys outdueled Kent State’s Kylie Reynolds, who fanned 17 Jayhawks but also surrendered four hits and three earned runs.
Pottorf, a red-shirt sophomore catcher from Washburn Rural, broke up Reynolds’ no-hitter in the fifth with a solo shot to left. Reynolds had fanned 11 of the first 12 KU batters she faced. Minutes later, Val Chapple reached on a error, stole second and scored on a single by Humphreys for a 2-0 advantage.
Kansas added two insurance runs in the seventh. Amanda Jobe walked and came all the way around to score when Chapple singled, and the Kent State right fielder threw wild to home plate. Chapple then scored on a double by Sara Ramirez.
Kansas (7-5-1) will continue its string of 18 consecutive road games Friday at a tourney in Tulsa, Okla. The Jayhawks will face Iowa State, Tulsa and North Texas in the three-day event.
