Louisville, Ky. ? Senior Kassie Humphreys tossed five solid innings, and the Kansas University softball team provided her with more than enough offense Saturday in a 7-3 victory against Iowa during rainy conditions at the Red and Black Tournament.
Humphreys (5-1) allowed two unearned runs on three hits, striking out four. Reliever Val George pitched the final two innings to earn her second save.
KU (6-5-1) did the bulk of its damage in the top of the third inning, using three hits – including a three-run double by sophomore Dougie McCaulley – two walks and an error to break a scoreless tie and take a 5-0 lead.
Up 5-2 in the seventh, the Jayhawks padded their lead thanks to a two-run double by freshman Sarah Ramirez.
KU will wrap up tournament play today in an 11 a.m. rematch against the Hawkeyes (7-5).
