Kansas University released final renderings of the Anderson Family Football Complex, the latest step in the construction of the $31 million facility.
The renderings were made public Thursday after being received by the KU athletic department from HNTB Architecture, the Kansas City, Mo., firm in charge of the project.
A full move-in is expected in July 2008. Work soon will begin on the rearrangement of parking. New spots will be added just west of Memorial Stadium so that spaces can be removed southeast of the stadium. There, two practice fields will be installed.
Parking spaces are expected to be rearranged fully by the fall, and the plan is not to lose any spaces in what’s already a scarce commodity on game days.
The Anderson Family Football Complex is expected to be one 80,000-square foot, two-story building, with weight rooms, offices, an audio-visual room, meeting rooms, a hydro-therapy area, a nutrition area and a display area.
“This facility will help Kansas Athletics in a number of ways,” Kansas athletic director Lew Perkins said in a statement. “It will certainly help KU football compete on a more even plane with other Big 12 programs, but also, by consolidating all football activities into one area, the facility will free up space needed for other sports.”
The bottom floor is expected to be at least partly underground. The bottom level could feature training areas and athletic facilities, while the top floor likely will be reserved for offices.
The complex will be constructed against the southwest corner of the stadium, so the view of Campanile hill is not obstructed.
“The new football facility will embrace the hillside southwest of the football stadium in a manner that will not detract from the beauty of Campanile hill,” said Warren Corman, University Architect.
