Associate AD Hines leaves Kansas

By J-W Staff Reports     Feb 9, 2007

Kansas University associate athletic director Terry Hines has been hired at Winston-Salem State in a similar capacity.

WSSU announced the hiring on Thursday, giving Hines the title of associate director of athletics for external affairs. His responsibilities include major gifts and overseeing the department’s marketing and communications efforts.

Hines had been at KU since 2002, serving a variety of roles. He started under former director Al Bohl focusing on the athletic department’s legal affairs.

In 2003, under current A.D. Lew Perkins, Hines’ title was altered to include both legal affairs and compliance.

He held that role until 2005, when he was then shifted over to the Williams Fund where he worked with major gifts.

Hines attended college in North Carolina, getting his bachelor’s degree from Davidson College and his juris doctorate from the University of North Carolina. He also has a master’s degree from Ohio University.

“My family and I are extremely pleased to be returning home to the state of North Carolina, and I am excited about joining the athletic department at Winston-Salem State University as it continues its transition to the Division-I level,” Hines said in a statement. “The University and the athletic department are on an upward trend, and I look forward to helping the institution succeed at the next level.”
