Gerald Henderson had 12 points and DeMarcus Nelson and Jon Scheyer added 10 apiece for the Blue Devils (9-0), who took control with a 14-0 run in the first half.

Duke opened with nine straight victories for the third time in four years, won its NCAA-best 56th straight nonconference home game and improved to 3-0 against the Big Ten by sending the shorthanded Wolverines (3-6) to their sixth loss in seven games.

DeShawn Sims had 12 points for Michigan, which started two freshmen and two sophomores while playing without starting point guard Jerret Smith for academic reasons.

No. 7 UCLA 75, Davidson 63

Anaheim, Calif. – Luc Richard Mbah a Moute scored 21 points and UCLA made up an 18-point deficit to win in the John Wooden Classic.

The Bruins (8-1) joined No. 1 North Carolina and Duke, then ranked seventh, as powerhouse programs that got a scare from mid-major Davidson. The Wildcats (3-5) lost by a combined 10 points to the two ACC schools, and had UCLA down by as many as 18 points in the first half.

Stephen Curry, the son of former NBA 3-point specialist Dell Curry, led Davidson with 15 points. Jason Richards added 13 points and seven assists, a category in which he leads the nation.

Josh Shipp added 15 points and Kevin Lowe had 12 points and 12 rebounds for UCLA, which was coming off a two-point loss to Texas last weekend, its first of the season.

No. 9 Michigan St. 68, No. 20 BYU 61

Salt Lake City – Drew Neitzel scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half as Michigan State rallied to win its fifth straight.

Goran Suton had 12 points and 13 rebounds and Raymar Morgan scored 17 points for Michigan State (8-1), which was 16-for-24 from the field in the second half and quickly overcame a 10-point halftime deficit.

Trent Plaisted scored 19 points and Sam Burgess added 15 for BYU (7-2), which couldn’t overcome poor shooting and the Spartans’ quickness in the second half.

The Spartans outrebounded the Cougars 37-29 in the game played in Salt Lake City at EnergySolutions Arena, home of the Utah Jazz, about an hour from the BYU campus.

No. 11 Marquette 81, Wisconsin 76

Madison, Wis. – Dominic James scored 20 points and Marquette ended Wisconsin’s 28-home game winning streak, the third-longest in Division I.

Marquette (6-1) won for the third in its last 10 meetings with its in-state rival and won at Wisconsin (6-2) for the first time since 1997.

Jerel McNeal added 14 points and Dwight Burke added 12 points and nine rebounds for the undersized Golden Eagles, who finished with a 41-34 rebound advantage.

Brian Butch scored 17 points and Trevon Hughes added 16 for the Badgers, who are 97-6 at the Kohl Center under coach Bo Ryan.

No. 12 Pittsburgh 75, Washington 74

Seattle – Justin Dentmon’s runner in the lane as the buzzer sounded was disallowed after a lengthy review, and Pittsburgh held on.

Dentmon took an inbound pass the length of the court and scored as time expired. Initially, it appeared Dentmon’s basket came after the sound of the horn. Officials reviewed video for nearly five minutes, with the Washington student section shouting in their ears, but agreed the shot came late.

Levance Fields led the Panthers (9-0) with 20 points, but missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 5 seconds left, setting up the frantic final moments.

Trailing 71-65, Washington (4-4) hit three 3-pointers in the final 93 seconds to pull within one. Ryan Appleby, who had 18 points, hit two of the 3s, the second with 6.8 seconds remaining.

Blair added 16 points and 14 rebounds as the Panthers improved to 9-0 for the sixth consecutive season.

Wright State 43, No. 13 Butler 42

Fairborn, Ohio – Wright State stopped Butler by stopping A.J. Graves.

Scottie Wilson and Todd Brown both scored 10 points to lead Wright State to an upset over Butler on Saturday night, the Bulldogs’ first loss of the season.

Butler (8-1, 1-1 Horizon League) had a last chance at the win, but Graves missed a 3-point attempt from the top of the key with three seconds left.

Wright State (3-2, 1-1) used tenacious defense and balanced scoring to beat the Bulldogs.

Dayton 70, No. 14 Louisville 65

Louisville, Ky. – Brian Roberts scored 28 points for Dayton, which spoiled Rick Pitino’s bid to become the 17th active Division I coach with 500 victories.

Dayton (7-1) won its sixth consecutive game and beat the Cardinals for the second straight year.

Derrick Caracter had 16 points and seven rebounds and Earl Clark had 15 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks for Louisville (5-2).

The Cardinals trailed by as many as 12 points during a horrid first half, but held the Flyers scoreless for over six minutes during a 13-0 run that gave the Cardinals a 41-39 lead. Dayton responded behind Roberts, who hit two pull-up jumpers and added two free throws during a 14-5 burst that put Dayton back in front 53-46 with 7:05 to go.

Louisville would get within three points several times in the final minutes, but the Flyers made their free throws to clinch it.

No. 15 Indiana 70, Kentucky 51

Bloomington, Ind. – Jordan Crawford scored 20 points in his first career start to help Indiana to its third victory in the last 14 games of the border series, and extended the Hoosiers’ home winning streak to 23 games.

Patrick Patterson scored 15 points and Joe Crawford, Jordan’s older brother, had 10 for Kentucky (4-3), which lost to No. 1 North Carolina last week in Rupp Arena.

Jordan Crawford returned from a three-game suspension and the Hoosiers (8-1) needed him because their regular starting backcourt sat out. Freshman Eric Gordon, the nation’s No. 2 scorer entering the week, missed the game with a bruised lower back, and sophomore guard Armon Bassett was suspended.

No. 17 Gonzaga 85, Cal State Northridge 59

Spokane, Wash. – Micah Downs scored 19 points and Gonzaga recovered from its worst performance in a decade to whip Cal State Northridge.

Matt Bouldin added 18 points and Abdullahi Kuso had 11 rebounds for Gonzaga (8-2), which improved to 43-2 at the McCarthey Athletic Center since it opened in 2004.

Deon Tresvant scored 15 points to lead Cal State Northridge (6-2), while Calvin Chitwood and Rob Haynes had 11 each. The Matadors finished 24 points below their season average of 83.1.

Gonzaga was coming off a 51-47 home loss to No. 8 Washington State on Wednesday, its lowest point total since 1996. The Bulldogs scored 45 in the first half alone this game.

No. 19 Oregon 75, Utah 64

Portland, Ore. – Bryce Taylor scored a season-high 20 points for Oregon at the annual Pape Jam at the Rose Garden.

Tajuan Porter had 16 points and Maarty Leunen and Joevan Catron both added 11 for the Ducks (7-1). The victory was the 200th at Oregon for coach Ernie Kent, who is second on the school’s all-time win list, 12 behind Howard Hobson.

Tyler Kepkay scored 23 points to lead Utah (5-3), which became the first team to hold Oregon under 80 points this season. But the Ducks shot 53.7 percent, the first time Utah has allowed an opponent to shoot better than 50 percent.

No. 22 Arizona 78, Illinois 72, OT

Chicago – Freshman Jerryd Bayless made six free throws in the final 31 seconds of overtime for Arizona two days after Hall of Fame coach Lute Olson announced he would not return to the Wildcats this season.

Jordan Hill had 23 points and 14 rebounds for the Wildcats (6-2), while Bayless had 20 points. The overtime free throws were Bayless’ only attempts of the game.

Shaun Pruitt had 24 points and nine rebounds and Trent Meacham had 16 points for Illinois (5-3), which finished 10-of-22 from the free throw line.

No. 23 Vanderbilt 90, Lipscomb 67

Nashville, Tenn. – A.J. Ogilvy scored a career-high 26 points to lead No. 23 Vanderbilt to a 90-67 victory over Lipscomb on Saturday.

Ogilvy scored six points during an early 14-0 run that put the Commodores (9-0) ahead 18-4. Vanderbilt led by no less than eight points the rest of the game.

Vanderbilt led 50-35 with 15:58 remaining on a 3-pointer by Alex Gordon before Lipscomb rallied. A jumper by Eddie Ard with 12:27 remaining capped an 8-2 run and trimmed Vanderbilt’s lead to 54-46.

Vanderbilt’s Shan Foster answered with three consecutive 3-pointers and two free throws, and Gordon added two treys, to keep the Commodores ahead 71-53 with 7:09 left.

Foster scored 17 points in the second half and finished with 21. Gordon added 12 points.

Ard led Lipscomb with 18 points and Thomas Pfaff scored 15.

Vanderbilt’s largest lead of the first half came at 31-16 with 3:28 remaining on a free throw by Ogilvy.
