OKLAHOMA CITY ? J.C. Field’s three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Missouri an 11-0 lead over Oklahoma, ending the game as the tournament’s run-rule was in effect on Friday at the Big 12 baseball tournament.
Missouri moved to 2-0 at Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City and advanced to today’s 8 p.m. game against rival Kansas.
Junior Max Scherzer pitched all seven innings, improving to 7-1 overall. The homer for Field was his third of the season and capped a 5-RBI game. He had a pair of hits in MU’s win over Oklahoma State on Wednesday and has had at least two hits in four of the last six games.
Field drove in a pair of runs in the first inning as the Tigers scored five times. After the Sooners were retired in order in the top of the first, freshman Ryan Lollis and Field each had 2-run singles in the bottom half of the inning. A pair of OU errors aided the Tigers as four of the five runs were unearned.
