A Kansas University football player was arrested Friday night on a charge of aggravated battery after an alleged fight with a roommate.
Bruce Ringwood, 21, a sophomore fullback from Blue Springs, Mo., was booked into the Douglas County Jail about 10 p.m. Friday after Lawrence police investigated the fight.
Sgt. Susan Hadl said Friday officers determined two roommates reportedly fought about a woman. The altercation became physical in the 3500 block of Ellie Lane in northwest Lawrence, and one roommate “overcame” the other, Hadl said.
The two roommates were treated for injuries and released from Lawrence Memorial Hospital, and then Ringwood was arrested, Hadl confirmed Saturday. Police have not released the name of the alleged victim.
The sergeant also said that police forwarded information Saturday to Douglas County Dist. Atty. Charles Branson’s office. A call to Branson to confirm if charges officially were filed Saturday night was not immediately returned.
Ringwood was free on $3,000 bond at 7 p.m. Saturday, according to jail records.
He received media attention in August when he was arrested in Kansas City, Mo., at a Kenny Chesney concert for his involvement in a scuffle that injured a Shawnee woman. KU coach Mark Mangino suspended Ringwood shortly after that arrest.
