COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. ? Future Kansas University basketball center Cole Aldrich is one of 23 players invited to the USA Basketball Men’s Under-18 team tryouts Friday through Sunday at the University of Texas-San Antonio.
The USA Trials will be used to select the finalists for the USA Basketball U18 squad that will compete in San Antonio at the 2006 FIBA Americas U18 Championship For Men that is being hosted June 28- July 2 by USA Basketball and the San Antonio Sports Foundation. Athlete selections for the USA Basketball Trials were made by the USA Basketball Men’s Collegiate Committee, chaired by Syracuse University (N.Y.) head coach Jim Boeheim.
Aldrich is a 6-11 senior-to-be at Jefferson High in Bloomington, Minn. Some other notables include: Michael Beasley, Oak Hill Academy, Va., who is considering Kansas State and others; Blake Griffin, Edmond, Okla., who has committed to Oklahoma; Spencer Hawes, Seattle, headed to Washington; Kyle Singler, South Medford, Ore., who is undecided. Head coach is Washington’s Lorenzo Romar, who is assisted by Georgia Tech’s Paul Hewitt and DePaul’s Jerry Wainright. In all, 12 players will make the team.
