Battle takes 5th in shot

? Kansas University’s Sheldon Battle added a sixth All-America honor to his resume on Saturday.

Battle placed fifth in the shot put during the final day of the NCAA Track and Field Championships.

The Jamestown, N.Y., native had a best toss of 64 feet, 9 1/4 inches.

In his two years at KU, Battle was a four-time indoor All-American and a two-time outdoor honoree.

KU earned five All-America honors at the NCAAs. Sophomores Egor Agafonov (hammer) and Paul Hefferon (5,000m), as well as seniors Charisse Bacchus (long jump) and Denita Young (javelin) also were named All-Americans.

In the team standings, KU’s men’s team tied for 30th with eight points, and the KU women tied for 64th with two points.
