Former Jayhawk Settlemier keeps slamming in pro ranks

By J-W Staff Reports     Jun 6, 2006

Serena Settlemier’s penchant for producing grand slams has carried over into the professional ranks.

Settlemier, who slugged six grand slams among her Kansas University-record 22 home runs this spring, hit a bases-loaded homer in her fourth game as a member of the Texas Thunder of the National Pro Fastpitch League.

Playing against the Arizona Heat on Sunday, Settlemier accounted for all her team’s runs in a 5-4 loss.

Settlemier also wasted little time in clubbing her first pro home run – a two-run shot in the Thunder’s season opener last Thursday at Arizona.

After the first weekend of the NPFL season, Settlemier is leading the league in home runs with two and RBIs with eight.

She is hitting .500 (7 for 14) overall.
