HILO, Hawaii ? Kansas University scored six runs over the final three innings to rally to an 8-3 baseball victory Friday night over Hawaii-Hilo.
A pinch-hit sacrifice fly by freshman Justin Ellrich in the seventh inning broke a 2-all tie. The Jayhawks added two runs in the eighth and three in the ninth inning to pull away and improve to 3-0, while the Vulcans fell to 0-3.
Jared Schweitzer led KU offensively, going 3-for-5 with two runs, his second homer of the season and an RBI. Erik Morrison also homered for KU. Morrison, Matt Baty and Ritchie Price each had two hits.
Freshman Ryan Anthony earned his first collegiate victory by throwing two-thirds of a scoreless inning. Don Czyz threw two scoreless innings to get his first save.
In Thursday night’s late game, outfielder Gus Milner went 4-for-4 and drove in three runs to spark the Jayhawks’ 9-2 victory.
The Jayhawks and Vulcans will move the series to Kona for a doubleheader today.
