Kansas University softball player Serena Settlemier hit the daily double Tuesday.
Settlemier, a fifth-year senior from Kelso, Wash., was named player of the week by both the Big 12 Conference and USA Softball. Settlemier shared the national award with Oregon State’s Cambria Miranda.
“This is an incredible honor for both Serena and our team,” KU coach Tracy Bunge said. “Her performance this season has been remarkable and last week she did some pretty incredible things.”
Settlemier recorded 15 strikeouts and posted a 0.44 earned-run average in 16 innings last week to improve her overall record to 15-5. She held opposing hitters to a .115 batting average.
She was also a force offensively with eight hits and 12 RBI for a .615 batting average. In five games, she hit three home runs – two of them grand slams.
