An attorney entered a not-guilty plea Monday on behalf of former Kansas University basketball player J.R. Giddens, who’s charged with battery and disorderly conduct in connection with a fight in May at a local bar.
Giddens, who has since transferred to the University of New Mexico, did not attend Monday’s hearing in Douglas County District Court but was represented by his attorney, Debra Vermillion of Overland Park.
Judge Pro Tem Peggy Kittel set Giddens’ next court date for Oct. 25. Giddens will be required to be at that hearing and to go through the booking process at the Douglas County Jail afterward.
