KU’s Vinson awarded scholarship

Kansas University senior guard Stephen Vinson has been awarded a scholarship for the 2005-06 season, Jayhawk coach Bill Self announced Tuesday afternoon.

The Lawrence native, a preferred walk-on for the past three seasons, was elated that the financial aid came at a perfect time,

“I got engaged this past summer and this will help with the finances,” said the 6-foot-2 guard, who has appeared in 39 contests in his career. “I’m thankful to coach Self.”

Self said he was equally grateful to Vinson, saying he is always a consummate team player.

“Stephen has been a great teammate during his time here at Kansas,” Self said of Vinson, a crowd favorite amongst Jayhawk fans. “He’s very positive, a great ambassador on campus and the hardest working Jayhawk in our program. He has improved a tremendous amount since he has been here due to his attitude and work ethic.”

Vinson’s scholarship fulfills KU’s yearly allotment of 13.
