Kansas University freshman goalkeeper Julie Hanley was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the week, conference officials announced Tuesday.
The Indianapolis, Ind., native improved her season record to 6-1-0 while lifting the Jayhawks to two 2-1 victories over Colorado College and first place Texas last weekend.
Against Texas, Hanley recorded five saves including a diving effort early in the second half. Three of her five saves came in the final 40 minutes of the match. In KU’s non-conference victory over Colorado College, Hanley made three first half saves and four total.
Hanley has started KU’s last six matches and has not allowed more than one goal in any of those contests. She has a 0.81 goals against average this season and 0.64 GAA during Big 12 play.
Hanley is the third Jayhawk to be honored by the Big 12 this season. She joins Jessica Bush and Jessica Smith who were named Big 12 Offensive Players of the Week on Sept. 6 and Oct. 11, respectively.
