The Kansas University swimming and diving team lost to Minnesota, 168-132, in its first dual meet of the season Saturday at Robinson Natatorium.
The Jayhawks started strong, winning the 400-meter medley relay, the first event of the dual. Senior Lindsey Urbatchka, junior Jenny Short, sophomore Terri Schramka and freshman Danielle Herrmann finished the race in a time of 3 minutes, 50.09 seconds.
Herrmann also recorded wins in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.84) and 200 breaststroke (2:23.20). Junior Emily Knopp won the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:07.94, and freshman Ashley Leidigh won the 100 fly in 55.53.
In diving, junior Shelby Noonan finished first in the three-meter event after posting a score of 265.58.
“We swam better against Minnesota than the last time we swam against them,” KU coach Clark Campbell said. “We had some outstanding performances, and I am pleased with where we are. This was a strong test for us, and although we still have a lot of work, we are going in the right direction.”
The Jayhawks will travel to the Big 12 Relays on Oct. 14 in Columbia, Mo.
