Kansas University placekicker Scott Webb was named SBC Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week after KU’s 24-21 overtime win versus Iowa State on Saturday.
The sophomore Webb’s selection marks the third time this season that a KU player has been honored by the Big 12, as linebacker Brandon Perkins claimed the hardware following his five-sack performance against Louisiana Tech on Sept. 17 and defensive end Charlton Keith was honored after KU dropped Nebraska on Nov. 5.
Webb, a native of Tulsa, Okla., lifted the Jayhawks to victory by nailing a 34-yard field goal in overtime. The winning kick marked the third field goal of the afternoon by Webb, whose previous best was two field goals in a game. He also added a career long 48-yarder in the first quarter and a 33-yarder in the third quarter.
In addition, three of his five kickoffs sailed into the end zone for touchbacks and a fourth was returned from behind the goal line.
Adrian Peterson (RB, Oklahoma) and Michael Huff (DB, Texas) were also honored by the conference for their play last weekend. Winners of the weekly awards are voted upon by a panel of media covering the Big 12 Conference.
