Kansas University middle blocker Josi Lima was tabbed an All-Big 12 Conference First Team selection for the fourth consecutive season, the league office announced Monday.
The senior from Sao Paulo, Brazil is the only current Big 12 player to earn first team honors four consecutive seasons.
The 6-0 Lima led KU with 3.44 kills and 1.14 blocks per game in the regular season and notched double-digit kills in 22 of the Jayhawks’ 29 matches, including 21 or more kills on three occasions.
Lima was named AVCA/Sports Imports National and Big 12 Player of the Week on Sept. 19 after she averaged five kills, 2.75 digs, and 5.56 points with a .426 hitting percentage on the week.
An AVCA First-Team All-Region selection in 2003, Lima was named MVP of the Pizza Hut Jayhawk Invitational (Sept. 9-10) after averaging 4.00 kills, 3.33 digs and 1.22 blocks per game.
Kansas’ all-time kills leader (1,479), Lima is 16 digs away from becoming just the third Jayhawk in school history to record both 1,000 kills and digs in a career.
The 2002 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year is also ranked in KU’s top five career records for games played (429), kills per game (3.45), attempts (3,521), attack percentage (.271), aces (120), solo blocks (87), block
assists (326) and blocks per game (0.96).
Kansas earned its third-straight NCAA Tournament bid and will face UCLA (18-10) in first round action at 10 p.m. Friday (Dec. 2) at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles. The Jayhawks (15-14) are one of seven teams from the Big 12 to receive bids in 2005.
