Keith named SBC Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week

Kansas University senior defensive end Charlton Keith was named SBC Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week after KU’s 40-15 win over Nebraska on Saturday.

Keith’s selection marks the second time this season that a KU defender has won the award, as linebacker Brandon Perkins claimed the hardware after his five-sack performance against Louisiana Tech on Sept. 17.

Keith, a native of Akron, Ohio, had eight tackles (four solo), three tackles for loss and a quarterback sack as Kansas snapped its 36-game losing streak against Nebraska.

Along with three TFL’s for minus-16 yards and a pass deflection, Keith led a defensive effort that held the Cornhuskers to 21 yards rushing and 158 yards of total offense.

“He came off the ball like a rocket today,” KU head coach Mark Mangino said of Keith, during his post-game press conference on Saturday.

Stevie Hicks (RB, Iowa State) and Mason Crosby (PK, Colorado) were also honored by the conference for their play last weekend. Winners of the weekly awards are voted upon by a panel of media covering the Big 12 Conference.
