Atkinson, Murphy injured in scuffle

Two former Kansas University football players suffered injuries early Monday at Baby Dolls, a Topeka club.

Shawnee County sheriff’s deputies were called to a reported fight at the club at 1:20 a.m. The fight had ended by the time deputies arrived, but spokeswoman Sgt. Martha Lutz said they found three injured men, including former KU players Algie Atkinson and Chaz Murphy.

Atkinson, 24, had a stab wound in his back and Murphy, 28, had injuries to his head and one of his arms. Both listed Lawrence addresses. Jose Rivera, 31, of Topeka, had cuts on his face.

All three were taken to local hospitals because of injuries that weren’t thought to be life-threatening, Lutz said. Atkinson played for the Jayhawks from 1998 to 2001. Murphy lettered in 1999 and 2000. Both were defensive ends.
