? Senior catcher Sean Richardson hit a three-run home run and scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth inning to lift Kansas University to a 5-3 baseball victory over in-state rival Wichita State on Wednesday at Eck Stadium.

KU (31-21) has won seven of eight overall and two of four with WSU (38-16) this season.

With one out in the first, KU shortstop Ritchie Price reached on a fielding error, and junior outfielder A.J. Van Slyke singled. Richardson hit his fourth homer of the season for a 3-0 KU lead.

Wichita State tallied a run in the home half of the first off Kansas starter Tyson Corley.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Shockers were able to knot the game at 3.

Corley responded to retire 10 straight batters. He allowed two earned runs while collecting a career-high seven strikeouts over 62/3 innings.

The Jayhawks pushed across the go-ahead run and an insurance tally in the top of the ninth.

Richardson drew a walk with one out and moved to third on Jared Schweitzer’s double. Andy Scholl swung and missed at a pitch with two-strike count, but the ball bounced away from the catcher, allowing Scholl to reach first safely and Richardson to score the eventual game-winning run. Ryne Price followed with a sacrifice fly.

Junior pitcher Kodiak Quick (9-5) received credit for the win.
