Kansas University junior Christine Skoda has been named the Big 12 Conference women’s tennis player of the week, league officials announced Tuesday.
The Edmonton, Alberta, native had two straight-set victories over the weekend at the No. 2 singles position. Skoda recorded a 6-2, 7-6 (6) victory over Oklahoma’s Irina Lykina and defeated Oklahoma State’s Zana Masnic, 6-4, 6-2.
The Jayhawks won both matches, 4-3.
Skoda earned a 1-1 record in doubles over the weekend with teammate Ashley Filberth. The two are 5-4 on the spring season and 3-2 in Big 12 matches.
“Christine competed very well this weekend and has really taken her game to the next level,” KU coach Amy Hall-Holt said. “She is very deserving of the award with her 4-1 record in the Big 12.
This is the second time Skoda has been named Big 12 player of the week. She won the award for the week of March 23-29, 2004.
