Jayhawks to start series with NDSU

By J-W Staff Reports     Mar 11, 2005

Kansas University’s baseball team, still a couple of weeks away from Big 12 Conference competition, will entertain winless North Dakota State in a three-game weekend series.

Game times are 3 p.m. today and 1 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday at Hoglund Ballpark.

The Jayhawks (13-8) won only one of four games at last weekend’s NBC Classic at Mississippi State, bowing twice to the host Bulldogs and splitting with Austin Peay.

In that tourney, junior outfielder A.J. Van Slyke collected seven hits in 15 at bats to lead the Jayhawks with a .467 batting average. The Ladue, Mo., native also connected on his team-leading third home run.

Senior Travis Dunlap tied his career-highs with three hits and four RBI in a 3-for-4 performance against Austin Peay.

Junior reliever Don Czyz was KU’s top pitcher last weekend, working 51/3 innings out of the bullpen and yielding no runs on only three hits while notching seven strikeouts.

North Dakota State (0-7-1) has not played since Feb. 26.
