KU’s Battle second at NCAA Outdoor

Kansas University junior Sheldon Battle placed second in the shot put Friday at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Battle was the runner-up in the event with a personal-best throw of 66-71/4, the second-best toss in school history. Battle, the Big 12 Conference Most Outstanding Outdoor Performer, was second to Auburn’s Edis Elkasevic, who put the shot 68-6.

With his top-eight finish, Battle earned All-American honors.

KU will have three competitors in today’s the final day. Senior Amy Linnen and freshman Ekaterina Sultanova will compete in the pole vault, and senior Jeremy Mims will run in the finals of the 800 meters.
