KU recruit backs out

By J-W Staff Reports     Jan 12, 2005

One of Kansas University’s football commitments has changed his mind — again.

Jarrell Yates, a 6-foot-1 wide receiver out of Denver, told rivals.com Tuesday that he would sign with Colorado next month instead of Kansas.

The news comes just weeks after Yates decommited from CU and gave a nonbinding oral commitment to Mark Mangino and KU after making an official visit in December. He told rivals that KU wasn’t in the picture anymore.

“I really think that both schools are equal,” Yates told rivals. “I’d really like to go to both schools, but at Colorado, my family would get to see me play more.”

With Yates out of the picture, KU has 22 known commitments for the 2005 season, including six junior-college transfers who already have signed. The high school commitments will sign their letters of intent Feb. 2.
