After taking last weekend off, Kansas University’s softball team will play this weekend at a tournament in Palm Springs, Calif.

The Jayhawks, 4-5 after playing in tournaments in Tucson, Ariz., and Las Cruces, N.M., are scheduled for two games today. They’ll tangle with Utah at 2:30 p.m. and BYU at 8 p.m.

On Saturday, KU will meet No. 25-ranked Cal State Fullerton at 12:30 p.m. and No. 11 Washington at 8 p.m. On Sunday, the Jayhawks will battle Arizona State at 1:30 p.m.

Kansas will take a .270 team batting average into the five-game tourney. Third baseman Nettie Fierros leads the Jayhawks with a batting average of .429. Fierros also is the team leader in doubles with four.

Pitcher-designated player Serena Settlemier, who missed most of the Las Cruces tourney because of the flu, is expected to return this weekend. Settlemier will share mound duties with sophomore Kassie Humphreys and freshman left-hander Christina Ross.

Kansas will travel next weekend to a tourney in Carbondale, Ill. The Jayhawks’ home opener will be March 11 against Louisville.
