Editor’s note: Because of an editor malfunction – I claim depression after KU’s overtime loss to Iowa State – there are no video highlights or photos from this week’s X-Factor simulation. Given its blowout nature, maybe that’s for the best. This mistake also accounts for the shorter-than-normal game recap. My apologies.
Apparently, the virtual Jayhawks were sick of it and wouldn’t take any more.
After the real Kansas University men’s basketball team lost back-to-back overtime games last week, our virtual Jayhawks didn’t let overtime even enter the minds of the Oklahoma Sooners in this week’s X-Factor simulation.
Kansas jumped out to an early lead and ran away with the game, defeating Oklahoma, 74-53.
The Jayhawks led 40-27 at halftime thanks to 61.5 percent shooting in the first half, compared to just 37 percent for the Sooners. Kansas coasted in the second half, but still played strong defense and held Oklahoma to 41.7 percent shooting after intermission.
Aaron Miles had 10 points, four assists and four steals and should have won KU’s player of the game award instead of C.J. Giles (nine points, four rebounds, five blocks).
Michael Lee led KU with 12 points, Keith Langford added 11, and Wayne Simien scored 10 points. Jeff Hawkins scored six points, Sasha Kaun added five points and six rebounds, and Darnell Jackson and Moulay Niang added four points each.
J.R. Giddens (two points) and Russell Robinson (one point) rounded out KU’s scoring.
Drew Lavender was named OU’s player of the game with eight points and three assists. Jaison Williams led the Sooners with 15 points, Terrell Everett added 12 points and David Godbold added six.
KU’s interior defense was solid, holding Taj Gray scoreless and Kevin Bookout to just four points.
