UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. ? Yale University handed Kansas University a heartbreaking 4-3 defeat in tennis Saturday.
The Jayhawks (1-6) earned one victory in doubles, but the Bulldogs claimed the doubles point with two victories. Junior Christine Skoda and sophomore Ashley Filberth won their match, 8-6, over Yale’s Stephanie White and Olivia Nix.
In singles, the Jayhawks earned three victories: Freshman Elizaveta Avdeeva won her No. 2 singles match, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, against Rashmee Patil; sophomore Brittany Brown notched a straight-set 7-6 (5), 6-3 victory in No. 3 singles over Alford; and freshman Anna Jackson earned a 6-2, 1-6, 1-0 (5), victory in No. 6 singles over Olivia Nix.
“We played tough, but we are still young, and we need more experience,” KU coach Amy Hall-Holt said. “We have to keep our level of competition up and build on every match.”
KU will play host to Utah at 2 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Wood Valley Racquet Club in Topeka.
