Jayhawks take pair from Hawaii-Hilo

? Senior pitcher Mike Zagurski and two relievers combined to shut out Hawaii-Hilo, lifting the Kansas University baseball squad to a 6-0 victory in the nightcap of a doubleheader Sunday.

Kansas also won the opener, 7-6.

Zagurski (1-0) allowed just three hits in seven innings and struck out eight, helping the Jayhawks earn their second shutout victory in their first three games. Freshman Logan Murphy threw a scoreless eighth, and senior Michael Fitch pitched the ninth to complete the shutout.

The Jayhawks broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the sixth. Freshman second baseman Ryne Price belted a two-run triple, and junior center fielder Matt Baty added a two-run double.

In the opener, freshman third baseman Erik Morrison was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Jayhawks. Senior reliever Andrew Rebar (1-0) earned the win in relief of starter Sean Land.

Junior Don Czyz pitched the final two innings for KU. He allowed only one hit and one unearned run while striking out three to earn his first save.

“We had to play through some adversity today,” KU coach Ritch Price said.

Kansas (3-0) and Hawaii-Hilo (0-7) play at 10 p.m. Central time today at Wong Stadium in Hilo, Hawaii.
