Maybe the nets will be friendlier for Kansas University’s soccer team on its home turf.
KU will return to dried-out Jayhawk Soccer Complex today to meet Missouri State. Game time is 5 p.m.
With their home field virtually underwater last weekend, the Jayhawks shifted to Topeka’s Hummer Sports Park, settling for a 1-1 tie with Michigan and a 3-2 loss to Wisconsin.
Kansas failed to post a victory despite launching shot after shot against the two Big Ten teams. KU took a combined 51 shots in the two outings – 21 on goal – but made only three.
Meanwhile, KU’s defenders allowed only 22 combined shots by the Wolverines and Badgers. So KU has outshot its foes, 51-22, yet doesn’t have a victory.
While Kansas is off to a slow start, Missouri State owns a 2-1 overtime victory over Arkansas State and a 4-0 triumph over Arkansas-Little Rock, sparked by two goals from Meghan Cassady, a freshman from Shawnee Mission West.
That win over UALR was the school’s first under its new name. Formerly known as Southwest Missouri State, the name change became official Sunday.
KU (0-1-1) will be back at it Friday when it plays host to Arkansas, also at 5 p.m. at JSC.
