Kansas University sophomore basketball guard Rodrick Stewart apparently suffered a minor injury early this morning at Abe and Jake’s Landing, 6th and New Hampshire.
KU assistant coach Kurtis Townsend said Stewart “was fine. He had a little cut on the top of his head. They stitched it up and he’s fine.”
Townsend, who was instrumental in the recruitment of Seattle native Stewart, said he received a phone call from ex-Jayhawks Moulaye Niang and Aaron Miles in the early morning hours. Townsend went to Lawrence Memorial Hospital at 1:45 a.m. and left with Stewart about 3:15.
“I don’t know if he got it falling down or what,” Townsend said of the cut he said he thought required three stitches to close.
Lawrence police told a Journal-World reporter they responded to a a fight inside Abe and Jake’s Landing this morning. A police captain said no arrests were made. He did not say who was involved in the fight.
In an unrelated incident, an individual who was not a basketball player suffered injuries in a fall at Abe and Jake’s was flown to University of Kansas Medical Center.
