? Ross Randall is hoping a slow start will translate into a fast finish for his Kansas University men’s golf team.

The Jayhawks settled for ninth place after shooting a pedestrian 304 in the first 18 holes of the Big 12 Conference Championships on Friday at Whispering Pines Golf Club.

“It is pretty disappointing to play the way we did today,” said Randall, in his 26th year as KU’s coach. “We did not get the job done. We played sloppy.”

Kansas stands 19 shots behind leader Oklahoma State, which carded a 285 Friday.

Sophomore Tyler Docking shot a 73 for KU’s best score. Senior Andrew Price and soph Gary Woodland each had a 76. Senior Kevin Ward, the reigning champion of both the Kansas and Missouri amateurs, started with a 7-over-par 79. Junior Luke Trammell had an 80.
