Jayhawks honored by Big 12 Conference
Kansas University softball second baseman Jessica Moppin and baseball outfielder A.J. Van Slyke were named Big 12 Conference players of the week for their respective sports Tuesday.
Van Slyke, a junior, earned the honor for the second time this season. Last week, he batted .545 (6-for-11) with six runs, two home runs and a 1.273 slugging percentage. He leads the Jayhawks with 42 RBIs this season.
Moppin, a junior from Olathe South, drove in six of the Jayhawks’ nine runs in 5-4 and 4-1 victories over No. 5 Oklahoma last weekend at Arrocha Ballpark.
Moppin slugged a three-run homer, a two-run homer and had the game-winning single in the 5-4 nine-inning victory. She had a career-high four hits in that game.

Glass advances at Open
Clarksville, Tenn. — Lawrence’s Bob Glass rolled a pinfall total of 5,436 in the third round Tuesday of the Clarksville Open, placing sixth and earning an automatic berth in today’s round of 16. He will bowl at 11 a.m. today.

Relays attendance
Last week’s Kansas Relays attracted a paid attendance of 18,269, meet director Tim Weaver said Tuesday. Overall, the crowd count for the three days was 24,619, he said.
