Former Kansas University football tight end Lyonel Anderson signed a free-agent contract with the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday after being bypassed in the late rounds of the NFL draft.
“It’s a blessing,” Anderson said. “I was disappointed I didn’t get drafted, but now … it’s just football. It doesn’t matter if you got drafted or not.”

Anderson caught 33 passes for 328 yards last season with three touchdowns. He spent two years at KU after transferring from Alfred State College in New York.
Anderson also said teammate Austine Nwabuisi signed with the New York Jets on Sunday, and wide receiver Brandon Rideau was invited to the Cleveland Browns’ mini-camp Thursday. Neither could be reached for comment Sunday night.
