College Station, Texas ? Kansas University’s baseball team dropped its second straight Big 12 Conference series after winning the opener, falling to No. 16 Texas A&M, 7-5, Sunday at Olsen Field.
The Jayhawks, who won the first game of the series Friday, 7-5 in 12 innings, fell to 22-12 overall and 2-4 in Big 12 play; the Aggies improved to 22-10 and 4-5 in league play.
Kansas took an early lead for the third time in the series, pushing across a run in the top of the second inning on an RBI infield single by freshman designated hitter Brock Simpson.
The Aggies took the lead in the bottom of the fifth, plating three runs on three hits off KU starter Kodiak Quick to take a 3-1 lead. Quick (7-3) picked up the loss, pitching 52/3 innings and allowing three runs on seven hits.
KU junior center fielder Gus Milner led off the top of the seventh with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by senior catcher Sean Richardson.
Texas A&M added a pair of runs in the seventh and eighth innings off reliever Don Czyz.
After Richardson singled to open the inning, senior Mike Dudley connected on his second home run of the season to cut the deficit to 7-5, but the Jayhawks could not complete the comeback.
Kansas returns home for a 7 p.m. game Wednesday against No. 20 Wichita State at Hoglund Ballpark.
