College Station, Texas ? A night after Kansas University’s baseball squad won a 12-inning thriller, the Jayhawks severely lapsed on Saturday in a 12-4 loss to the Aggies at Olsen Field.
KU led, 4-2, after the top of the third inning, but Texas A&M (21-10 overall, 3-5 Big 12 Conference) exploded for five runs in the bottom of the third and tacked on two more in the fourth and three in the sixth.
Clint Schambach (2-3) started for the Jayhawks and struggled, allowing six runs — four earned — on five hits and two walks. He gave way to Andrew Rebar in the third, who couldn’t get an out and allowed three hits and a run.
Sean Land finally shut the door on the Aggies in the third, but he struggled in the fourth, and Scott Sharpe flailed in the fifth and sixth. Finally, Kyle Klem was able to stifle A&M, but the damage was done.
Ryne Price homered for the Jayhawks (22-11, 2-3), and Sean Richardson had two hits and two RBIs.
KU will wind up the series with A&M at 1 p.m. today. A Jayhawk victory would produce the first-ever KU series victory against A&M.
