Boulder, Colo. ? Kansas University’s struggling volleyball team will try to snap its four-game losing skid when it meets Colorado at 8 tonight at the Coors Events Center.
The Jayhawks (10-5 overall, 1-5 Big 12 Conference) lost at home to ranked foes Texas and Nebraska and fell on the road at Baylor before suffering an emotional five-game defeat to in-state rival and 16th-ranked Kansas State on Wednesday in Lawrence.
The Colorado match might be a good opportunity for KU to pick up a Big 12 victory. The Jayhawks have beaten the Buffaloes (9-5, 4-3) in three of the last four meetings.
Winning in Boulder won’t be easy, though. Kansas has only one win in the Coors Center in the last 10 years, a 3-2 come-from-behind victory in 2002. The Buffs also boast two of the top hitters in the league in junior Allie Griffin (averaging 4.39 kills a game) and senior Maragda Santillana (4.17 average).
Junior Josi Lima leads Kansas with 3.67 kills per game, while senior Ashley Michaels averages 3.06 kills and a team-high 1.67 blocks per game, the third-best mark in the Big 12. She blasted a career-high 24 kills in the loss to K-State.
Senior libero Jill Dorsey ranks second in the league with 4.65 digs.
KU’s next match will be Wednesday at Iowa State. The next home date is Oct. 16 against Missouri.
