Kansas-OU to clash at Arrowhead in ’05

By J-W Staff Reports     Nov 17, 2004

Kansas University’s football team will play Oklahoma next year at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.

KU made the official announcement Tuesday. The venue had been discussed for some time, and even prematurely announced by the Chiefs last month.

The Jayhawks will play the Sooners on Oct. 15, 2005 — the sixth game of KU’s regular season.

“The idea of KU playing a game there has been talked about for a long time,” athletic director Lew Perkins said. “It is time to try it to see if it works for our team and our fans.”

To make up for the lost home game, KU will play all three of its nonconference contests at home next year, instead of playing one on the road. Florida Atlantic has announced it will open the season in Lawrence on Sept. 3, 2005, though KU hasn’t confirmed it yet and won’t until all three nonconference game contracts are signed.
