KU picked first in Big 12

? Members of the media who cover Big 12 Conference basketball have tapped Kansas University the favorite to win the league’s 2004-05 men’s title.

KU’s women were predicted to finish 11th out of 12 teams in the women’s media poll.

The Jayhawk men received 11 first-place votes and 176 points, while Oklahoma State had four first-place votes and 166 points. Texas placed third followed by Oklahoma, Missouri, Iowa State, Texas Tech, Kansas State, Nebraska, Colorado, Texas A&M and Baylor.

KU senior Wayne Simien is the media’s preseason player of the year. Simien and Keith Langford were first team all-league along with Iowa State’s Curtis Stinson and Oklahoma State’s John Lucas and Joey Graham.

KU’s J.R. Giddens and Aaron Miles were honorable mention.
